Some ten years ago our Convoy of Hope was set up to transport much needed "Humanitarian Aid" consisting of Food, Clothing, Bedding, Medical Supplies, etc. to areas of devastation and hardship within Croatia and Bosnia caused by the civil war.
On 26th April 1986 there was an explosion at a nuclear power plant at Chernobyl, on the border between Ukraine and Belarus. Tons of radio-active materials were thrown into the air. Some of this was blown around the world, in parts of Cumbria and in Wales lambs still cannot be marketed because their meat is not safe due to the contamination from Chernobyl. 70% of the radio-active substances fell over Belarus. A quarter of the country's best farmlands and forest were poisoned and hundreds of towns and villages were evacuated. The entire country is a zone of international ecological disaster. Radiation released by the accident was 300 times greater than the Hiroshima bomb.

When my life is finally measured in months, weeks, days, hours,
I want to live free of pain,
Free of indignity, free of loneliness,
Give me shelter,
Give me your hand;
Give me your understanding;
Give me your love;
Then let me go peacefully,
And help my family to understand.
